Ubud 80571 Gianyar - Bali, Indonesia

Part of the rich experience of staying at Rumahnya Kodok is the involvement in the culture and charm of the local Balinese people. Rumahnya Kodok is located 5 kilometers north of Ubud, the cultural center of Bali. There is so much to see and do in this beautiful country including: dance performances, wood carving, painting, gamelan music, batik making, cooking lessons, surfing, snorkeling, sailing, hiking, motorbike tours as well as taking part in local ceremonies. There is also a jungle safari nearby where you can ride elephants.

There are ceremonies held often for many purposes and visitors are always welcome to participate in any of these ceremonies. When a child is three months old there is a ceremony and the child's feet touch the ground for the first time. Up to that day the child is packed by its family. Everyone helps; mother, father, grandfather, aunt. There are ceremonies for weddings, cremations, tooth fillings, family and village temple anniversaries. There is a ceremony for Nyepi, the Balinese New Year. Nyepi is followed by a day of silence. During this day there is a temporary flight restriction banning any incoming or outgoing flights.

Every 210 days the Balinese celebrate Galungan and Kuningan which are held ten days apart. Government offices close for two weeks during this period and schools are also closed. The celebration includes lots of food and many families slaughter a pig, goat or cow for the ceremony. Everybody receives new clothes and offerings are made at both village and family temples. Relatives come to visit at this time.
